Right route

From Norwich take the A140 North to Aylsham. Take the A1354 into Aylsham town and follow the road out towards Saxthorpe. In approximately 2 miles keep an eye out for a by-road on the right marked for Ingworth and follow this and take the first left turn, following this until the farm appears on your left, take the turning into the lane and the car park is on your immediate left. The lake is a short walk through the wood.

If you arrive at the Hall itself before turning right, turn around and head back towards Aylsham and take the first left to get to the fishery.

Pike a plenty here.

angler with pike
Another classic of a Norfolk estate lake that has been developed as a fishery. This in the grounds of the NT property of Blickling Hall.

The pike fishing here is for a good number of double figure fish with a regular appearance of fish into twenty pounds plus each season, topped by a a known fish that has grown into a superb specimen just over 30lbs in weight.

Popular, as much for its ease of access, is the dam where you will find deeper water, around 7 to 8 feet with the main lake having a depth of 3 to 5 ft overall. It is much shallower up near the hall but this area which gets extremely weedy during the Summer is out of bounds. (beyond the last platform on the east bank).

Stocks of roach, rudd, bream, tench, carp, perch and eels abound with the bream now pushing double figures. This large population of coarse fish make an ideal larder for the girls to grow big here. They do also provide some excellent sport through out the season for the general angler into the bargain.

As the depths are relatively shallow in typical estate lake fashion but float legered dead baits will sort you out a fish or two.
Live baits are banned here! A popular bait in the past few years has been sand eels, providing a 'different' bait that casts well from the dam swims when the prevailing wind blow hard into this bank. Drift fishing from the West bank across the lake offers the chance to put a bait across unfished water, sometime providing superb results!
